Using Family Constellations to explore the unresolved trauma of migration in our family story, and understanding the role of songs and stories in helping us heal.
Family Systems Constellations can help us to see the hidden hurt that is carried in each of our families that can be passed, unknowingly, from one generation to the next. In the past, emigration was a traumatic and final goodbye, as men and women left their families and their homes, never to return. Songs and poetry were a way for our ancestors to cope with the difficulties of life. Songs were the original therapy. They wrote songs of home as they emigrated looking for a better life. They experienced, deep within them, a longing for home and for family - often without really knowing what was ‘out of order’.
For many today, this longing drives them to research and reconnect with their roots - by returning to their ancestors’ lands, or by seeking out their history. For others, it presents as depression, anxiety, loneliness or addiction. Sadly some people take their own lives.
This workshop will give participants the opportunity to:
- Learn more about Constellation work
- Share songs and stories about emigration and immigration and reflect upon the history of migration in their own family story
- Experience the healing power of being a part of a constellation - as a client, as a representative or as part of the “Holding Circle”
- Help heal the rifts in the family soul, as we include those who may have been forgotten and ‘re-member’ those who were left behind
